People discover the lines at the bottom of the freezer was made to stand up meat trays

Australians are losing their minds after discovering the functional purpose behind the raised lines at the bottom shelf of the freezer.

A Queensland woman’s Facebook post went viral on Friday after she shared the mind-blowing revelation that the lines were made to stand up meat trays.

‘How old were you when you found out the lines at the bottom of the freezer were made to stand the meat trays up?’ the post said.

‘Today years old,’ the woman said, adding three emojis showing a mind being blown to express her shock.

The woman accompanied the post with photos of the inside of a freezer, in which around a dozen meat packs were rested against the raised white grooves side-by-side.

Commenters also reacted in awe at the clever use of the kitchen appliance, with others also saying they had never known of the supposed purpose.

‘We’ve been adulting wrong,’ one person wrote.

‘Now that makes sense – today old too,’ another added.

One commenter said the storage strategy wasn’t for them though, as it means the blood in the packets would all pool at the bottom.

But despite the theory convincing many, not everyone was so sure the thin white lines were intended to be used for that convenient reason.

One commenter said the meat trays come in different sizes, while two others had another theory for the design of a freezer.

‘Doubt it – more like air circulation so your stuff doesn’t stick to the bottom,’ they said.

‘It is,’ another person replied. ‘My Dad was a white goods mechanic, it’s what he always said. It’s for cold circulation.’
